CVC Audit
All current MFPA members
who have been an active member for more than one year will be audited by
CVC, with the Minnesota Free Paper Association picking up the entire cost.
Subsidized Conference
MFPA Conferences are designed
so that member publications can afford to bring absolutely as many staff
members for training as they can spare from their working responsibilities.
Few other organizations provide internationally known speakers and trainers
at such low cost to the attendees. All currently paid member publications
are eligible to attend all MFPA conferences and board meetings.
MFPA Membership Directory
The MFPA Membership Directory
is published annually and contains information on every MFPA member that
advertising buyers can use. Members automatically receive the directory.
MFPA Newsletter
While the dependable editor
of MFPA’s own newsletter editor would be the first to admit it is not a
Pulitzer Prize publication, it nonetheless keeps the membership informed
on a quarterly basis on what is going on around the membership and what
is coming up in the future. All currently paid members automatically receive
the newsletter, either via email or snail-mail.
New MFPA Member Benefits
MFPA is now offering the following
list of Member Benefits to MFPA members. The MFPA Board of Directors is
working with Midwest Free Community Papers (MFCP) to provide these additional
services. The package allows for instant member benefits for MFPA members.
There will most likely be questions about the benefits and how to participate.

1. Midwest Display Network
– This is a program that allows the cross selling of display ads in
each other’s papers. MFCP will include MFPA members into the Midwest Display
Network. Members receive 70% of their local open rate. The selling publication
receives 15% commission and MFCP and MFPA share the remaining 15%. MFPA
members set up an account for MFCP and bill once a month. Watch for a request
for information for this and the Midwest Insert Network in the next week
or so.
2. Midwest Insert Network
– This is a program that allows the cross selling of single sheet inserts
in each other’s papers. MFPA members receive their requested rate. This
is for single sheet inserts (8.5 by 11 inches). MFCP will ask for a rate
from each MFPA member and then it is marked up $3.00 per thousand with
the selling publication receiving $1.50 per thousand and MFCP and MFPA
sharing $1.50 per thousand. MFPA members bill MFCP once a month.
3. Help with Annual conference
and board meetings
The MFCP office will help
the existing MFPA conference committee in setting up their conference.
The MFCP executive director will attend MFPA board meeting should his presence
be required.
4. Regular Advertising
Opportunity Alerts
About 6 times a year MFCP
puts together editorial information that can be used by members for special
sections or pages in their papers. This notice will be sent to each MFPA
member asking them to respond if they would like to receive the packet.
5. Human resource hotline
– call the MFCP office
When a MFPA member has a
human resource question they will be able to call the MFCP office and we
will research the question then email them the answer. MFCP has access
to a service that provides this information.
6. On site training for
conferences

MFCP will provide this training
at no additional cost at regular scheduled conferences.
7. On going PR campaign
MFCP will promote MFPA and
its members to agencies and media buyers as a normal course of business.
8. Group rates for credit
card processing
This is a service that is
offered to our members and will be extended to MFPA members.
9. Help with the annual
awards contest
We will continue to help
with the annual ad award contest by supplying judges and other assistance.
10. Resource library
MFPA members have the opportunity
to check out items from the MFCP Library. The items may be checked out
for two weeks. All that is required is that the MFPA member ships them
back.
11. Internet resources
MFCP continues to find and
develop internet resources. These will be shared with MFPA.
12. Full time & staffed
association office
MFPA members and customers
will be encouraged to call, email or write the MFCP office and receive
the same level of professionalism as the MFCP members and customers receive.
13. Help with MFPA newsletter
MFCP will contribute articles
to the newsletter and assist in other ways as needed.
14. Media kits sent out
on members behalf
MFCP will send out media
kits to agencies and media buyers on behalf of member publications and
the association.
15. Zip code mapping
MFCP will coordinate requests
for zip code maps through CVC to keep the maps consistent with the audits.
We will set up the process with CVC.
16. Member demographic
research by zip code
MFPA members may request
demographic research based on the zip code they cover. The research needs
to be requested from the MFCP office along with a list of the zip codes
that the paper covers.
17. Conference call discount
program
MFCP has a working relationship
with a company that offers conference calling at an attractive rate. This
will be shared with MFPA members if they are interested.
18. Midwest AdNet – Media
buyer and ad agency program
MFCP will incorporate this
program for MFPA members. This program is based on the Midwest Display
Network. The paper receives 70% of their local open rate. Ads are based
on SAU columns. MFCP takes care of the conversion and handles all of the
insert orders. MFPA members bill MFCP once a month.
19. Individual paper listings
for media buyer database
We will work on MFPA member’s
behalf to make sure that the listings in various databases are correct.
This includes, PaperChain, SRDS, and other databases where CVC data is
used.
20. Participation in free-papers.com
MFPA is already listed with
this site. Since the MFCP office is staffed full time, the contact information
will direct the callers to the MFPA toll free number
21. Recruit new associate
members
MFCP will work to recruit
new associate members for MFPA.
22. Fair housing information
sent by email
MFCP will provide fair housing
information to MFPA members upon request.
23. Individual audit presentations
MFCP will provide two full
color presentations that sales people can use in their market. These presentations
are based on the CVC audit.
24. Delivery system manual
MFCP will from time to time
provide a copy of this manual for MFPA members
25. Letters to Santa
Each November MFCP has a
program where readers can send and receive email letters from Santa. There
is no cost for the paper or the reader. The paper just needs to run ads
about the program on a space available basis.
26. Industry research
MFCP will provide industry
research to the MFPA board as it becomes available. Should it be deemed
as something to be sent to the membership, MFCP will send it out by email.
27. MFCP & MFPA Classified
Network commission opportunity
We will continue to educate
MFCP and MFPA members on the advantage of selling the classified networks.
MFPA members can earn the same commission from selling an ad for MFCP as
an MFCP member. This works the same for MFCP members selling an ad into
the MFPA program.
28. New print and deliver
program
This is a new program that
is still in the development stage. When it is completed it will be given
to MFPA.
29. Representation at
all state and regional leaders meetings
MFCP has a representative
at all of the state and regional leaders meetings and conference calls.
Our representative will work for MFPA when a representative from MFPA is
not in attendance.
30. Regular notes to update
the MFPA President and board on what we are doing
Regular notes will be sent
to the MFPA president and the board keeping all abreast about what MFCP
is doing for and on behalf of MFPA.
31. Continued inclusion
in the MFCP classified network promotions and contests.
As new contests are developed
by MFCP to increase classified network revenue, MFPA will be included at
no additional charge.
32. Improving the MFPA
website
MFCP will from time to time
ask that changes and improvements be made to the association’s existing
website. These may include updating information, providing links so member
can download information, and making suggestions as to how the website
can become more of an asset to the MFPA members. This will be accomplished
by contacting the current webmaster.
33. Additional Member
Benefits
MFCP is constantly working
on additional member benefits. As these are developed MFPA members will
be include. Should there be substantial costs associated with a member
benefit the MFPA board will determine whether or not to participate.
